Breathing difficulties may sometimes occur in some individuals. According to an expert, there are three types: noisy breathing, painful breathing, and shortness of breath or breathlessness.

There are two kinds of’ noisy breathing: wheezy breathing (noise happens when an individual breathes out) and hoarse or difficult breathing (noise occurs when the individual breathes in and out). Wheezy breathing may be due to the common cold or acute respiratory infection. It is often ten experienced by very young children. On the other hand, noisy breathing in and out is commonly caused by laryngitis, croup or acute upper respiratory infection.

Painful breathing is also called pleuritic respiration. It is a symptom of lung disorder or that something is seriously wrong with the pleura (lining of the lungs), or in the bones, muscles or skin of the chest. The individual with this condition tends to cough too, as he tries to catch his breath which is often short and rapid. The immediate treatment for such a difficulty is to rest, take painkillers, and apply a hot water bottle to the chest. Of course, if the sufferer cannot stand the pain, he should consult the doctor right away.

Shortness of breath or breathlessness is of two types. Type I is called air hunger. Here, the individual cannot seem to take enough air, so he tries to draw deep, large and “sighing” breaths. We adults may be familiar with this condition especially when we are an overcrowded room. Breathlessness Type II is when a person seems to be “out of breath” as though he has just ran upstairs. His rate of breathing is increased. This is a symptom of some disorder of the respiratory system if person experiences breathlessness even while at rest or after only a little exertion. The sufferer may find relief if he sits in a position of greatest ease or comfort. However, he needs to consult a doctor immediately, if the onset of breathlessness is sudden or accompanied with either pain in the chest or blood-stained spit.

In these contemporary times, we are constantly under pressure and stress as we contemplate global conflicts, are confronted with economic instability in our similar personal situations. We need to take our minds off such pressures by following some breathing exercises. Deep breathing is all effective way to release physical and mental tension.
