Eczema Causes and Treatment Options

Skin blemishes can sometimes be a source of embarrassment for some people. This is why a lot of people invest on skin care products that can help them get clear, smooth, and healthy looking skin. Eczema is a skin condition characterized by skin inflammation that may be accompanied by redness, dryness and itchiness. The most common of which is known as atopic dermatitis, a condition that usually affect people with genetic predisposition to asthma or allergic rhinitis. Rashes may appear on the elbow and knee creases, chest, neck, cheeks and ankles. Other forms of eczema include Contact Eczema, Seborrheic Eczema, Neurodermatitis, Statis Dermatitis, Dyshidrotic Eczema, and Nummular Dermatitis. Their symptoms vary in each case and this may include redness, itchiness, and irritation, scaling or crustiness, dry and thick patches of skin, and appearance of small blisters with fluid inside. These conditions may be caused by a number of things like exposure or contact to irritants or allergens, strong chemical substances, soaps & detergents, clothing, jewelry, or cosmetics. It may also be triggered by sweat, temperature changes, and stress.

An accurate diagnosis is needed in order to come up with the best treatment option. A widely used treatment option for eczema is corticosteroid creams or moisturizers and oral antihistamine. Consult your dermatologist and make sure to thoroughly discuss the medical history of your particular skin condition. In some cases, skin scrapings that are placed under a microscope or a biopsy test may be required to pinpoint your exact condition.
